Below you’ll find twelve ideas to drive qualified leads to your Web site over the next year. Even if you don’t follow this exact order, it might make sense to start with January and February’s tasks because they lay the foundation for the rest of the year.

Experts: Set a goal of doubling the number of subscribers to both your RSS and email feeds. Put your feed signup “above the fold,” if it’s not there already.

July: Get Ready for Your Close Up. Most Web marketers agree: video is the killer app. Videos engage people in ways that words often fail to do. Search engines such as Google and Ask are returning video with traditional Web pages.

If you already have videos on your site consider setting up a free account at YouTube, starting your own channel, and uploading your videos there. A single video might bring you thousands of visitors.

August: Spread the Word with Article Marketing. Article marketing is an underutilized method of reaching thousands of prospects that would have never heard of you otherwise.

By sending out short, targeted articles through an article distribution service such as iSnare or The Phantom Writers, you can drive links and traffic back to your Web site or blog.

Use your completed keyword research to help you write compelling, click-worthy articles that can’t be ignored.

September: Dust Off Your Email Newsletter. Email may be getting a bad rap these days due to low delivery rates, but it’s still a cost-effective way of reaching a wide swath of Internet users. Remember: no one’s ever coming back to your Web site. Ever. Not even your Mom. So get over it.

Instead, provide a compelling reason for them to subscribe to your email newsletter so that you can stay in contact with them and retain front-of-mind real estate for when they’re ready to make a buying decision.

October: Publish Your eBook. Remember when I told you to set up Google Analytics? Well, now it’s time to review your stats and find out which keyword phrases are driving the most traffic to your site.

Maybe it’s “deep fry a turkey.” Or “spanking alternatives.” Or “buying carbon emission credits.”

Whatever’s driving traffic to your site is an opportunity for an eBook topic. It’s an itch that needs scratching. Now, start writing.

November: Give an Ear (or a Voice) to Podcasts. You don’t have to host your own podcast to realize and leverage the power of podcasting.

You can find podcasts in your niche or industry by browsing the podcast directory in the Apple iTunes store. (Don’t worry: they’re almost invariably free, and no, you don’t need an iPod to listen to a podcast, just a computer.)

Listening may give you the impetus to start your own or to at least contact some podcasters in your industry and see if they want to interview you.

Remember, content is king. It’s why people are coming to your web site in the first place, regardless of whether they’re a repeat visitor, or a random drive by led in by search engines. Make sure your content is worthwhile, make sure it updates regularly, and remember that people will click on advertising links only if they’re interesting in the context of whatever content was there.

When designing your site, it is important to let people know what your contents are right away. Have a good site index and clear intentions. Your messages need to be conveyed in a clear way without using jargon that most people would not understand.

While you’re investigating what your site is going to look like, remember that people read at 400 words per minute; they listen at 100 words per minute. Keep this in mind when putting content out – anything that has to be clicked on and listened to is an invitation to use the back button.

Web 2.0 and Web marketing is a match made in heaven. There are many ways to create traffic to your website using the power of Web 2.0. Below I am going to examine what I consider to be the top five.

Generally speaking, if people can submit links to content, submit content, make comments and vote good/bad content up/down thus affecting the amount of traffic that content can generate, it’s Web 2.0.

Blogs, wikis, file sharing sites, content rating systems, book-marking sites, and social networking sites are all examples of Web 2.0. Some of the more well-known Web 2.0 sites are YouTube (file sharing), Facebook and MySpace (social networking), Wikipedia (wiki), BlinkList (book-marking) and Digg (content rating system). The list is almost endless, and the traffic that these websites generate is absolutely staggering.

So how can you harness some of this traffic?

1) Create original, quality and compelling content and submit them to Web 2.0 websites.

For example, if you write an original and compelling article, you can submit it to content sharing and content rating system websites such as Digg, Propeller, Newsvine MarkTD or Reddit. Sometimes there content sharing and content rating system websites that specializes in a particular industry. MarkTD specializes in marketing, for example.

When you submit your article to these sites, people will give it a vote, and each vote moves the article up where it can be seen by more and more people. This has the potential of creating a lot of traffic for your website since each reader will need to click on the link to go to your site to read the full article. And you’re building a permanent link pointing to your website that can be followed for months and years to come. (And don’t forget, a link from a quality site to your website helps in your search engine rankings too.)

Or you can create an original video and submit it to YouTube. Here it will get rated and possibly seen by many people. If the video contains your website or a plug for your business, then all the better. YouTube is not the only video sharing website however. There are many, and one video can be submitted to them all. This same concept applies to your original images, photographs, digital art and audio files.

2) Web 2.0-ize other people’s sites that contain a link back to your website

I’ll assume you already know how your bookmarks (or Favorites) work in your browser. There are websites that exist that act in the same way, but the bookmarks you set are public. BlinkList and Simpy are two examples of this. People’s public bookmarks are browsed by others and lead to clicks to the sites you’ve bookmarked. So be sure to bookmark your business website and inner pages that are important.

Also, these bookmarks can appear in search results in engines like Google and Yahoo. And some even think that search engines use book-marking sites in their algorithms, although this has not been conclusively proven. Simpy and BlinkList are two more examples of these kinds of Web 2.0 book-marking sites.

Let’s say you write an original, quality article and post it to your business website. Then let’s say you submit the article to a handful of content rating websites like some of the ones explained above. To further market this article, you can then use social book-marking sites to bookmark the page on the content rating websites that list your new article and that contain a link back to your article. This can be very powerful.

Or let’s say you notice that an authority in your industry has a link on its website that points back to your website. Go ahead and bookmark the page on the authority site, thus marketing it, which in turn markets your site as well. One particular Web 2.0 website that is very popular and can generate tons of traffic is StumbleUpon. This site allows people to give any page you deem worthy a “thumbs-up”. And if you get enough “thumbs-up”, people browsing StumbleUpon will see it and click over to that page. So I always make it a point to “Stumble” my business websites’ homepages and sites that contain links to my business websites as well.

If you become an active member in a handful of Web 2.0 websites and utilize these first two suggestions alone, you will be amazed at the kind of traffic you can generate.

3) Engage in the conversations and activities

When I suggest above to become an active member I mean that you need to visit a few of your favorite Web 2.0 sites on a regular basis and actually contribute to the site with your opinions, votes, comments and submissions. For instance, if you like Digg or Newsvine, visit them often and submit quality articles, content and sites to them. And they don’t all have to be your sites.

In fact, the more impartial you are, the more people will trust you when you submit one of your articles. And you ought to vote for other people’s Digg submissions as well. You may enjoy Facebook, Linkedin ro MySpace. First, create a profile on the site, then go out and make connections within the community. The more you do this, the more you can harness the power of the people you meet to help market your website or yourself.

Visit and comment on blogs in your industry. This is another tried and true way to engage in the online conversation. Blogs are Web 2.0 and have been around for a while now. Unfortunately, leaving blog comments has been abused by so many people that you absolutely must only leave blog comments that contribute to the overall blog post.

Only add your website’s link if you’re asked to. These links won’t help your search engine rankings but can drive traffic to your site.

4) Encourage visitors to bookmark and tag your content

If you have a blog, add a feature that shows up at the end of every post that allows users to bookmark or submit your post to other Web 2.0 websites. ‘Share This’ is just such a blog add-on (or plug-in) that can do this for you. If you have a Wordpress blog you’ll be able to find a plug-in that allows you to integrate this type of feature (including Share This) into your blog very easily and without the need for any technical knowledge. If you write a memorable or compelling post, people can use this to make bookmarks to the post, Stumble it, Digg it and so forth. All of this can lead to more traffic.

5) Add a Web 2.0 feature to your website

First of all, your business website needs a blog. If you don’t have one, then stop reading this and go to it. A blog enables you and your employees an easy way to post new information that is relevant to your business and helpful to your customers. And it allows your customers to easily communicate with you by leaving comments.

But beyond a blog, what other Web 2.0 features can you add to your website? If you’re selling products, consider adding in a feature that allows customers to rate each product. It can be something as simple as one to five stars or more elaborate where they leave reviews. Amazon does this and it one of the major driving forces in their sales. When potential customers see that your products are rated by existing customers, they’ll be more likely to trust you and buy.

You could add a wiki to your website. A wiki is software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content. By encouraging your website visitors to create content for you, you’re allowing your site to grow, become more informative and thus creating more chances to be found in search engines. These features can be found as third-party software packages and integrated into your existing website surprisingly easily.

No matter how striking your website is, if your website developer doesn’t make the direction-finding system user-friendly, you’ll be undetectable to the search engines. Whether you like it or not your web site will remain virtually invisible to the bulk of the internet online businesses unless you take the appropriate steps to draw interest to it.

If you plan to do serious marketing via e-mail you’ll need to put in some first class tools. Not all people respond well to online surveys and to email web marketing. They see this as a nuisance and if you don’t package it well, they’ll probably just block all your efforts.

E-Mail Client Programs.

The first type of e-mail program you need is a fundamental e-mail client. Settling for the built-in program included with your web browser is not advisable. One of the essentials is the classification of filters that will arrange e-mails by keywords as it comes to your site.

By creating a group, you can send out multiple e-mail messages and files to individuals or just by pasting multiple addresses into the To: field, but it’s a mark for beginners, since each one of the recipients see the e-mail addresses of all the other recipients, which can be awkward to look at, and subjects your links to spamming from others.

When pasted into the Cc: field, it has the same purpose and works the same. But when you put the e-mail addresses into the Bcc: field (which means “blind carbon copy”) nobody can be able to see the addresses of the recipients. If you have little list of contacts to e-mail to, this will be acceptable.

Eudora Pro (http://www.eudora.com/) is the father of brilliant e-mail handling programs. Its use of filters and stationery gives you permission to send automated responses to e-mails containing keywords, such as those you set up with forms-to-email systems. For example, one option a customer might choose and include the keyword “birdbath” which would automatically trigger Eudora to send an e-mail reply about your Electronic Birdbath product. Eudora’s filters are very powerful and reliable, but its contact information section is pretty rough, and difficult to put up in a database arrangement that allows you to send personalized e-mail to contacts.

Outlook 98 and 2000

Microsoft Outlook 98/2000 (http://www.microsoft.com/outlook/) is an outstanding e-mail program. Its filters are not as strong and reliable as Eudora’s, but the way it integrates e-mail with contact information, e-mail addresses, categorization, journals, calendaring, etc. make it supreme for people-intensive small businesses. One weakness of Outlook 98 is that not all fields of its contact information can be used in an e-mail combine operation.

Pegasus Mail

Pegasus Mail (http://www.pegasus.usa.com/) by David Harris is a high quality, multi-featured freeware e-mail program adored by users and it’s highly recommended.

Revnet Mail King

Revent’s mail king (http://www.mailking.com/?wmt) is a well program that reads data from MS Access or Excel files (as well as several other familiar formats), and allows you to merge that data into an e-mail message. It has some moderately sophisticated filters to help you select suitable recipients.

Arial Campaign

Arial Software Campaign (http://www.arialsoftware.com/?wmt) has been around for several years. The most recent versions of this software run on Windows 95+ and Windows NT platforms. Campaign provides all the features of Mail King, and works without difficulty with MS Access and other common databases, but also allows scheduling of e-mail messages to go out a certain number of days after a client has taken a certain action.

Mail loop

Mail loop (http://marketingtips.com/mailloop/t.x/15267/) is an extremely flexible program. It works alongside your current e-mail client program to pre-filter e-mail, extract forms-generated data from e-mail messages, strip e-mail addresses from any kind of file, merge your database into personalized e-mail messages, offer auto responder-like responses, host newsletters, and process “remove” requests from those who want you to be detached from any of your lists.

List server Programs

E-mail merge programs run on your desktop, and depend upon the rate of your connection to the Internet. List server programs, on the other hand, reside on web hosting service computers with a direct connection to the Internet, so they can pump out e-mails extremely fast. All include automatic subscribe and unsubscribe features, and allow a variety of lists, one-way mailings such as newsletters, and discussion lists, both moderated and unmoderated.

Web Marketing is the most important thing to a growing business.

We all know that web marketing is a difficult thing, but web marketing is EVERYTHING to online business. Many people will promise “overnight success” to wannabe web business owners and they will get suckered into a “pie-in-the-sky” dream. However, if they don’t have good web marketing, they don’t have anything!!

I have launched several businesses in the past several years, and in the beginning I thought that just because I built a web site the world would beat a path to my door. How wrong I was! I didn’t realize that without good web marketing no one would even view my site in the first place!

Since my first venture in online business I have realized that web marketing IS the NUMBER ONE priority of an online business.

What business are you in? You may think that your business is selling widgets or something else, but it isn’t! No, your business is web marketing! You NEED to realize this. This is the first and foremost thing.

If you can grasp this ONE point, you will be way ahead of the masses who decide to build a website to make their “millions.” The life blood of a web business is the traffic that it receives. If you can average 50 unique hits per day and from those hit you make one sale or ten AdSense click, what would happen if you could get 500 hits in one day?? You sales (or clicks) would also multiply by ten!

How are those people going to get to your site if they don’t know about it??

How are they going to find out about it in the first place?

Everything on the internet rises and falls on traffic. Traffic comes from successful web marketing. That doesn’t mean that your web marketing costs a fortune! In fact, in many cases it is free! You just need to know where to look.

Here are a few steps that you can take to begin to pursue great web marketing.

1. Design a Search Engine Friendly site.

Keep it simple. Yeah, we all love those “Flashy” sites with cool features, but search engines love simplicity.

Use text links. So you have a really cool looking navigation bar? Chances are Google can’t understand it. Put some text links on your page that link to the other areas of your site too

2. Use Links

Make sure that you put a page on your site where you link to other sites. This shows search engines that you are relevant and connected to the world!

Ask other web sites to link to your site, or ask bloggers to link to it. Use as many (ethical) means as possible to get your link out there

3. Submit, submit, submit

Submit your site to the big search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN, the others don’t matter as much. If Google and Yahoo list you…everyone will.

Submit your site to DMOZ (dmoz.org). This is a free directory that will give a lot of credibility to your site

4. Become and author

The internet is driven by content. Content is king. So…write some relevant articles and put them on your site.

Take some of those articles and submit them to “article sites” and make sure you put a link to your site!

Well, this is really just the tip of the iceberg of web marketing, but if you practice these things you will surely begin to see an increase in traffic!

Remember that above all, if you master web marketing, you have mastered the web!
